Culture in Toplita
Starting in 18th century Romanian consciousness of Toplita was supported and stimulated by the establishment of the first societies and cultural associations. One of the most important of these was ASTRA – Transylvanian Association for Culture and Literature of the Romanians in Transylvania. In the years preceding World War II, starting in 1946, in Toplita was established a cultural city hall, in which he tapped out some amateurs’ artistic formations, and a popular library. Starting with 28 October 1952, the working club “May 1” was added, which worked beside the forest factory.

After setting up the Toplita District in 1952, the cultural town hall has become the District House of Culture, and popular library, the District Library, both institutions having their role in the coordination and guidance of cultural halls and communal libraries of the district. In the same period started to function the local city Cinema, in a building built from contribution of its inhabitants. In the same building has functioned the ” Aschiuta” children’s theater. Out of the same money contribution have been built, subsequently, the sports hall at the “Miron Cristea” elementary school, as well as a public bath (ceased to operate). In 1990, in Toplita started its activity the Professional Folkloric Ensemble “Rapsodia Calimanilor”. Toplita Cultural Center coordinates at present, the whole Professional Folkloric Ensemble “Rapsodia Calimanilor”and the Museum of Ethnography, founded in the year 1998. On the same occasion, took place the first National Festival – Contest “Miorita”. In 1976 and 2010 took place 17 editions of “Miorita” Festival (every two years), in the city civil hall, and in 1990 of the Ensemble “Rapsodia Calimanilor”.
The civic hall from Toplita municipality has a modern theater with 447 seats, inaugurated in the year 2010, where cultural events, folk/traditional music, symposiums and conferences are frequently organized.
